Every pledge and effort helps increase awareness, conversation, and action towards a solution to reduce food waste.
Vancouver, BC, CANADA, January 12, 2022 – TrendiTech Inc. (Trendi), Canada’s robotics start-up dedicated to rescuing and upcycling food waste into delicious products, is calling on the global community, from consumers, businesses, schools, to producers, to take part in its new campaign – One way we can all help reduce food waste is by looking at our own shopping, cooking, and eating habits to find areas where we can stop food waste from happening. Take The Pledge to Stop Food Waste . The goal is to build awareness, create conversation, and mobilize action towards reducing food waste.
Participants, called Food Waste Heroes, are given resources and ongoing tips to help them reduce their waste, track and encourage them to share their progress.
“1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted annually and almost 50 percent of food waste comes from households,” explains Carissa Campeotto, co-founder and CMO of Trendi. “Our goal with The Pledge to Stop Food Waste is to empower people to change their lifestyle and make a commitment to reducing food waste over time. Every step and action taken, either big or small, makes a difference. Our 21 Day Food Waste Challenge assists people in making these choices, and we look forward to seeing how participants do.”
Committing is simple. As participants sign-up, they pledge to reduce their food waste by category, such as in vegetables, fruits, food packaging, and protein. This commitment is aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development food waste targets, which is to “by 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses”.
Participants who take The Pledge to Stop Food Waste can start their food waste reduction journey by completing the 21 Day Food Waste Challenge . The Challenge is designed to provide and introduce people to new food saving habits, from every day storage tips to repurposing tricks. The Pledge is also a destination for collaborative resources and tools, which will be continually updated. Content includes:
- Educational resources about food loss and waste
- Food waste diary and measurement information
- Food storage hacks and fridge organization
- Ways to reuse leftovers in recipes
By building a community of food waste rescuers and champions, we are furthering the message that food waste is a critical barrier for sustainability living,” adds Parsoua Shirzad, Chief Impact Officer at Trendi. “However, we can all collectively change this by making a commitment to reducing food waste on a micro scale as individuals, making impactful changes as businesses, all while we at Trendi continue to make changes on the larger scale with our innovative robotics.
TrendiTech Inc. is currently working on several initiatives, such as its pioneering, state-of-the-art BioTrim mobile processing units to reduce food waste at the source, and upcycled food products for consumers.
