B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. It’s not merely about lip-service towards certain goals, but actual material commitments and achievements. B Corp is about the impact a company can have on the lives of their employees and on supply chains.

And that’s exactly what we want to achieve.

A very important part of B Corp is their comprehensive evaluation approach which gives us a framework with which to align our impact journey, from the early stage of our development. It’s also an external evaluation so we can’t just declare that ‘we’ve done it!’: we need to show our work.

Some of the things that we’re focusing on include, but are not limited to:

  • An impact (ESG – environmental/social/governance) report, which would detail what issues are important for us and how we plan on measuring and improving our impact
  • Internal policies to ensure a diverse and equitable workplace
  • Guidelines for sustainable procurement and a supplier code of conduct

Being a relatively new company is a huge advantage for us here: we can integrate B Corp’s viewpoints into our processes as we develop them, rather than having to change how we do things after the fact. A focus on how we impact our employees, the environment, and communities, is being built right into our standard business practices from the start.
